Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Lolly R — 24 Apr 2018
Absolute bunions. The demographic was clearly game obsessed 10 year old boys. The fight scenes felt to long and felt I was left with many unanswered questions. There was a scene about three quarters of the way in that left me really confused. So the two main characters (whilst in reality) have just realised that their base has been ambushed and they slide out down the corridor. The guy, Lard (or whatever) ran out this kind of secret door and she (Samantha) turns and says: "you'll forgive me for this." AND SHE CLOSES THE DOOR AND JUST STANDS THERE. It cuts to a different scene but minutes later goes back and shows her being caught, but this just proves she would have got out with minutes to spare. I expected her to have a plan but nope she just chilled in a cell for a bit and they had to save her.
Speilberg relied to heavily on the narrative of the future. Plot holes? obvious hiding places that no-one else guessed? Its because its the future! Just go with it! But I couldn't. And found myself rolling my eyes. A lot.
