Didn't really stay true to the novel nor much of the 80's culture that was the theme of much of the story. Wouldn't of been much of an issue for the movie going its own route if the novel wasn't just a far superior story over all.
The movie just feels like the typical boy meets girl with a sprinkle of virtual reality thrown in and cameos all over the place. If you didn't read the book, you'll probably like the movie. It's a pretty simple weekend flick.
Otherwise don't go in with a lot of expectations. Spielberg has to stop making movies.
