Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Foldermath — 29 Mar 2018
I thought it was a standard, run-of-the-mill action film. Not good, not bad. Mark Rylance (James Halliday) was by far the best actor, everyone else was a tad annoying. I wasn't a huge fan of the book, but I did see this movie with someone who was a big fan of the book, and she didn't really like it either.
Details and plot are definitely tinkered around with, which I didn't mind too much. What most bothered me was how superficial it felt, and how the premise of having everyone in the world logged into a video game is never explored past a cliche-laden generalization of the entire situation.
Besides that, I could have used more good 80's music, and the CGI wasn't bad, but it just got too excessive for me. See it if you want some moderately satisfying entertainment, and nothing else.
