Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Thingamajiggly — 28 Mar 2018
Wow. What a massive disappointment. If you read the book Ready Player One for the love of God don't see the movie. It's a train wreck. I mean, I know that things get cut and storylines can change when they make a movie from a book, but there is no excuse for this monstrosity.
Barely any references to anything in the book: no Dungeons and Dragons, no Max Headroom, barely any 80's music or references to 80's movies, no Joust, no Ferris Beuller, no Monty Python, no Blade Runner, barely any old school video games.
.. The quests all changed, the hints changed, the locations all changed. Ugh. Ernest Cline should be ashamed of what he helped create in this screenplay. He sold out.
