Review of Ready Player One (2018) by Ashton L — 20 Apr 2018
Sigh. I personally can't understand the enjoyment that so many critics and audiences have with this one. The film is just a bunch of CGI cameos of random nostalgic properties and references to famous media.
That's it, it's a bunch of nostalgic eye candy. This is not a good movie. The characters are stale and uninteresting, the story is oddly paced, and the villain(s) feel so fake and as if they belong in a straight up comedy film.
It has so many properties inside of it which make cameos which is a commendable feat, but the movie itself, as a film, is disappointing on so many levels. And yes, I have read the book. I also didn't like that as much but I did enjoy it more than this film.
The film takes a complete dump on the book and it's characters as well by the way. Spielberg failed on this one, I'm sorry, he isn't perfect and missed the mark.
