Review of Read My Lips (2001) by Walid N — 13 Jun 2007
There's something alluring about the simplicity of this movie. What I love most was the fact that this didn't go down the same road in portraying a disabled woman as the helpless one, instead, it empowered her as the savior role, which is unusual in many other similar movies.
An unlikely match turns out to be a pretty good partnership, she getting what she believes to be a just reward for her work, and him, wanting to just stay out of jail. It's impressive how they manage to show that, despite going down the same path eventually, but for the good for both of them.
I didn't expect this movie to impress me this much, but perhaps that might have been a good thing, a very believable human interaction between 2 people that just doesn't have anyone else but each other.
