Review of Razorback (1984) by Ruby H — 16 Jun 2013
What a weird ass film this is. Great fun though, much more than you'd think an early 80s Australian creature film could possibly be.
There's your usual awful acting and terrible special effects, especially Razorback himself, but compensation comes in the unlikely form of some beautiful photography and excellent editing. The director, apparently, used to shoot music videos.
There's also a few laughs, some light tension, some super-annoying characters accompanied by shameless stereotyping, some bizarre sequences and of course, impossible situations left and right. But mix them all together and you get one hell of an oddity. The film flopped at the box office but it's now considered cult and very decent vhs and dvd sales have kept it alive.
