Ethan Hawke & Ewan McGregor play half-brothers who are brought together by their father's final wish; for them to dig his grave and bury him. This peculiar setup serves to mirror the unpleasant relationship they experienced with him.
Hawke & McGregor both turn in nuanced, appealing performances with the rest of the cast matching that quality. Writer/director Rodrigo Garcia has created a film that's intelligent, while being offbeat and predictable at the same time.
This is a little gem that can be appreciated for its gentle conflicts and winning performances.
