Review of Ray (2004) by Dann W — 22 Jun 2009
What a mess of a movie. I watched about a half hour before I decided to turn it off. The writing is terribly structured and bland. Ray's first band and manager are introduced and dismissed in a matter of minutes before any real grasp of the characters can be made.
The flashbacks are sloppily thrown in the mix, and the only thing Ray seems to be doing is talking about being blind and having nightmares about his dead brother. His character seems to be presented without any desires or passions, he just shows up in Seattle and starts playing music.
Jaime Foxx is impressive, but it doesn't make a difference when the rest of the movie isn't.
