Review of Ray (2004) by Shaonli N — 07 Feb 2012
The film, while being a lustrous tribute to the eternal show-man, effortlessly captures the 50s' Blues as well as the idiosyncrasies of the then recording industry. Jamie Foxx with his intense portrayal of Charles Ray smoothly overcomes the occasional drag in the script.
However the direction remains crisp for a greater part with some very fine performances and needless to say, great music. The colored bottles hanging from the tree will stay with me for a while. The only tragedy of this beautiful biopic is that the man himself couldn't make it for the premiere.
