Review of Raw Deal (1986) by Jordan T — 13 Jun 2009
It has it's share of epic moments, but there is way too much time where it drags. It just gets real boring every now and then and I'm going to blame it on Arnold's affair with Kathryn Harrold.
..nothing happens! Darren McGavin seems so out of place in his role as the head of the FBI or something like that. Not to mention he rocks a horrendous looking mustache. None of the other characters mean a darn thing to me (I did crack up with almost every scene Sam Wanamaker did though).
Didn't care about ANY of them and I think that's pretty much the plan...don't take the spotlight off of the future Governator! There are a lot of things that don't make ANY sense in here.
Naturally some is Arnold's dialogue, but some of the reactions, the deaths, the minor storylines, pointless interactions, and this tag line: "The system gave him a raw deal. Nobody gives him a raw deal.
" WTF?! Maybe if they capped NOBODY it would've worked better, but still it's weak. Arnold is just a naturally funny person and I truly believe he intends to be that way with these super human roles cuz his delivery is too good lol.
Seeing Arnold play the "long-suffering husband" at the start of the movie was hilarious, but how he faked his death and then slicked his hair back to change identities does it for me. Did I mention the big kill fest is accompanied by the Rolling Stones' "I can't get no satisfaction"? A horribly awesome watch with friends, but a possible snoozer by yourself.
