Review of Raw Deal (1986) by Kyle E — 08 Sep 2010
"Raw Deal" is quite literally the best title for this movie, because that is exactly what your getting. Take pretty much any other movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and you have pure gold. But "Raw Deal", is not even close to coming into that category.
Believe it or not, the director and writers of this movie want you to believe that Arnold can infiltrate the mob. Seriously, who thought Arnold was a good idea for this movie? I mean I love me some Schwarzenegger films, don't get me wrong, but here he is almost totally miscast. Then, to make matters worse, it's almost as if they writers and the director knew that Arnold was miscast, and during the last twenty minutes of the movie they decide to have Schwarzenegger go on a rampage where he is putting down these mobsters while wearing almost the same get-up he has from "Terminator". The only thing he is missing are the shades.
There really aren't any memorable Arnold one-liners here either. The acting, even Schwarzenegger's, is pretty poor to say the least. Even Darrin McGavin's presence can't save this movie. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but for Arnold Schwarzenegger, I expect a certain standard and caliber of film that wasn't offered here.
