Review of Raw (2017) by Timothy A — 24 Apr 2017
A disappointing step down from the original, and one which has little idea what to do with the characters now that their identity as a team has been established. Apart from doing too little of what really worked originally (the humour) and too much of the stuff that kind of worked (action sequences set to classic rock), the real flaw here is in ignoring the vaguely credible socio-political world created in the first instalment and stranding the characters on uninhabited far-flung planets.
They?re franchise characters, without innocent bystanders to put in danger, all tension drains away. It?s unclear whether the setting up of a new team at the end is aiming for a spin-off or creating antagonists for the next instalment, but either way it?s far less interesting than the teaming of Sylvester Stallone, Michelle Yeoh and Ving Rhames should be.
