Review of Ravenous (1999) by Jason F — 23 Dec 2008
There are few films that inspire my creativity in the realm of writing and performance. "Ravenous" happens to be one of them. It was brought to my attention by a friend as the marketing campaign for the movie left me thinking that it was nothing more than a "survive the wilderness" flick.
"Ravenous" is another beast entirely! I'm always impressed with subtlety in acting and Guy Pearce has never disappointed. The guilt and cowardice he toils with is present in every scene, no matter how slight.
Robert Carlyle basks in his character's eccentricity and darkness. Down the bill, not one actor is anything less than stunning. The mystical predicament the characters face throughout the story is rousing in its freshness and execution.
If you don't know much about it, I'd say it's worth the risk to watch unless you are adamantly against even the slightest of bloodletting and/or swashbuckling.
