Review of Ratchet & Clank (2016) by Quietgiant — 08 May 2016
I tend to end up agreeing with the critics more often than not, so I was rather surprised at how much I ended up enjoying the film. I laughed more than expected (despite the humor's scattershot approach), the visuals could really impress despite the small budget (weak facial animation, though), they did a great job of incorporating the games' elements into it, and there was even more moral to it than I was expecting (not that it was profound). It was by no means perfect, but I was actually quite entertained and in my opinion they really underrated this one. Shame it wasn't better received (critically or commercially).
P.S.: Major kudos for retaining the core voice cast. The execs could have easily replaced them with celebrities in an attempt to draw more publicity, but they chose to respect the property and relegate said celebs to new supporting roles.
