Review of Ratchet & Clank (2016) by Snidelywhiplash — 18 May 2016
Despite this films viewer praise it is important to look at this film for what it is, A FILM, although one may argue that the movie was only following the games, the point of adapting a film from something is so that it may STAND ON ITS OWN, without requiring the audience to have played any games or read any books.
This is the failing of Ratchet & Clank, it relies on preexisting bias to create the enjoyment you would get from the film, instead of trying to be entertaining itself. The more positive viewer reviews for this movie clearly display that. This movie did not try to be anything different then the game, which wears thin to those who do not get off to a nostalgia factor. Although this is a kids movie, lack of effort to be original and stand alone when adapting a medium to a film is lazy writing.
The animation was decent, but the characters were poorly developed and lacked any form of complicated personality.
