Review of Ratatouille (2007) by Tatsuhito K — 03 Aug 2015
I loved it when it first came out, but right now not so much. Despite its stunning animation and wonderfully imaginative story (kudos to writer-director Brad Bird), I have to admit Ratatouille is only a slightly above-average Pixar film.
Some people may take this following remark as very personal and unreasonable, but here is the thing: I don't have tolerance for stupid human characters. How Linguini talks and behaves really got on my nerves; for almost the entire time, I just wanted him to be more confident and don't walk as if his muscles are made of spaghetti.
Patton Oswalt, as Remy, brings depth and laughter to this film, Peter O'Toole is excellent as Anton Ego, and Michael Giacchino's score is simply beautiful. I do love the message of the film, but I just wish there was more depth to its characters and the story itself.
Ratatouille sometimes feels overly long, but still a fun outing for those who love Pixar films.
