Review of Rat Race (2001) by Jason K — 29 Jan 2012
The movie has a number of really funny moments -- most of them revolving around Jon Lovitz and Nazi's, but the movie falls apart halfway through when it becomes apparent the creators didn't figure on any way to end it... Where the original landed everyone in the hospital, this one flops on the lame ending of "let's have a Nickleback concert" -- missing that the target audience isn't a bunch of teenage girls interested in boy bands. By the time you reach the end it's like a late 90's SNL skit, where they've delivered the punch-line but continue to milk it for another five minutes -- to the point it's painful to watch the final third of a movie that had potential, but falls flat on its face in the end.
It also further shows that American directors and screenwriters have NO CLUE what to do with Rowan Atikinson, who is as wasted in this part as he is as Bean.
