Review of Rat Race (2001) by Ryan V — 02 May 2012
This remake and/or knock-off of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World is directed by Jerry Zucker, a man who has fallen a long way since Airplane and The Naked Gun. John Cleese plays an eccentric billionaire who hides two million dollars in New Mexico and charges six teams with racing to it.
The wannabe millionaires include goofballs played by Cuba Gooding Jr., Whoopi Goldberg, Rowan Atkinson, Seth Green, Jon Lovitz, and a number of other celebrities who have seen better days. To the surprise of absolutely no one, Rat Race ultimately ends up being a dull and joyless romp through some trite comedic set-ups.
