Review of Rashomon (1950) by Kris W — 07 Oct 2010
A great study about the search for reality or truth. The movie purports to be about a nobleman's murder and his wife's rape by a jungle bandit but each person's version of the event will confuse viewers and make them think about how they view life.
Viewers will also enjoy the black-and-white photography, the luscious views of the sun cutting through the forest and jump cuts that include close-ups to long shots. A US movie that mimics Rashomon's style is 'Courage Under Fire'.
Rashomon opens with a downpour to signify dread, and this is also copied in 'Seven'.
