Review of Rashomon (1950) by Alicia L — 15 Jan 2009

So did everyone contribute to the man's death because they all contribute to toxic notions of gender roles, but the thought of questioning the social order is simply too much to bear so no one can acknowledge what really happened, and therefore in each person's individual account, s/he is responsible for the death?
The main (and, I would think, fatal) problem with that interpretation is that it assumes that the fourth version is "correct", which is, of course, simply the wrong way of looking at the story.
On the other hand, I think the fourth account assumes that viewer has seen the first three accounts, so perhaps it is fair to judge the fourth account in the context of the previous three.
This film also has some Death-Star-attack-esque issues with pacing.
