Review of Rashomon (1950) by Gavin S — 17 Apr 2013
An interesting piece by Kurosawa about the unreliable narrator, and the beginning of multiple accounts of the same story being woven into one film. The story itself is not too complex, but an interesting take on making it into more than it first seems.
Also very rich to see in B&W. Toshiro Mifune, Takashi Shimura and Minoru Chiaki all feature prominently, though it is Mifune's film to steal, as in Seven Samurai (in which all three also appear). Worth a watch if you enjoyed Seven Samurai, but a very different movie and might not appeal as much.
Still a very well made film.
