What a treat this film was !!! It's from Finland and it uses the mythology of christmas from that part of the world. What I really liked about this one is the way it references such things as the Brothers Grimm and is something that would be right up the alley of joe dante or guillermo del toro !!!! I hope hollywood does NOT remake this like they remake everything else.
The performances are top notch especially the young boy who's father is actually a real deer hunter in the lapland part of finland. Santa Claus in the finnish culture is not very nice at all if you can believe the drawings and pictures that are in the film.
Very brothers grimm indeed. The old fella the hunters come across is actually a demonic elf ! Cinematography is really great here too as the Herlander brothers filmed in finland norway and sweden. This will be a cult film very quickly indeed.
