Review of Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010) by Jeff B — 13 Dec 2010
Man, this was a real find. An action/horror/comedy from Finland about a mining team in Finland who manage to uncover the actual Santa Clause buried underneath a mountain of ice. Of course, this Santa isn't very nice.
If you manage to get past the basic premise, this movie is a ton of fun, very easy to enjoy, and it's just overally really entertaining. I'm not quite sure what genre to categorize this in, because the characters in the film pretty much take the entire scenario seriously.
But the scenario is just so preposterous, you can't help but laugh at it. Sure, there are some cheesy/over the top moments (after all, the hero of the film is a 10 year old boy) but come on, you don't get many Christmas movies like this that manage to pull this off so well.
