Were it not for a few choice swear words, occasional gore, and repeated full-frontal nudity, albeit entirely non-sexualised, this sinister Finnish fairy tale might be considered a Christmas fantasy adventure for all the family, but it feels awkward as it is: a little too adult for children, and vice versa.
