Review of Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010) by Jennifer S — 01 Jan 2011
Well this movie was something else. Part horror film, part black comedy, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is the perfect Christmas movie for people who hate Christmas movies!
A month before Christmas, an archaeological dig in a mountain in Northern Finland uncovers something sinister...something evil...something not so jolly. Young Pietari, who lives with his reindeer hunter father at the base of the mountain suspects that this dig has unearthed the real Santa Claus: not the jolly old elf who brings children presents, but an evil monster who tears naughty children to pieces. After the children of his little town go missing on Christmas morning, Pietari and the skeptical men of the village must discover the truth about Santa.
I won't say anything more because I don't want to give too much away. Rare Exports takes the conventions of Christmas movies and action/horror films and turns those conventions upside down--with hilarious results. I can see Rare Exports gaining momentum as a cult film.
