Review of Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010) by Eric R — 24 Feb 2011
This is such a cool premise. It's about some American's on an archeology dig in Finland, who happen to discover the real Santa Clause. Lets just say that this version of Santa isn't exactly the jolly fat man.
It's a horror/comedy/drama (yea, it's hard to classify) which follows a group of local Findlanders who are stuck in the middle of it all. Once released, Let's just say that Santa and his elves are not what you know from the fairy tales.
Unlike similar films with fun/crazy plots (Dead Snow for example), Rare Exports really does a good job at feeling grounded in reality. Sure it's a little hokey at times, but it's just such a neat original premise.
The film is well paced, and at under 90 minutes it's a great little treat. Awesome ending too.
