Review of Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010) by James K — 18 Dec 2011
I usually don't watch - let alone get excited about many Finnish movies despite being Finnish myself, but the trailer for Rare Exports got me rather excited. I though it could be as good or even better than such gems as Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning and Jade Warrior.
Sadly it turned out to be quite a disappointment. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I hope the movie does so well that a Hollywood remake will be made some day. That way the script could get spiced up with much needed action, suspense and perhaps some more humor.
The current script has great potential, but the execution didn't work as well as it possibly could have. The biggest disappointment by far was (spoiler warning!) how the real "Joulupukki" had only a passive role and was never even fully visible.
