Review of Rapture-Palooza (2013) by Jesse O — 25 Apr 2014
This follows the principle set by Your Majesty and Hellbenders. They curse a lot in the hopes that you don't notice how much the film is lacking in decent laughs or story. This film sees Craig Robison, as the antichrist, making a number of inappropriate comments towards Anna Kendrick's character, whose name escapes me right now.
I think it's funny the first couple of times, but after the billionth comment, it just sort of starts to become uncomfortable to watch. Uncomfortable in the sense that you feel a little bit embarrassed for the actors, especially Anna Kendrick, for having to perform and listen to these childish comments.
Of course, with a cast like this, there's still some really funny lines. Craig Robinson has a lot of them, but I think the film is more concerned with having clever lines than anything else. The story is incredibly lacking, it doesn't really build to anything and isn't particularly interesting.
Anna Kendrick's character has to marry the Beast or else he kills everyone she knows. It's a little dull to be honest, almost like the script didn't get out of the first draft before they decided to film it.
A lot could've been tightened up and revised if a little more effort was put into the script. The cast makes it a little more watchable than it probably should've been, but outside of some funny lines, there's not much this film gets right.
And that's a shame, cause this concept had a lot of potential to make for a great movie, and we got a below average movie out of it.
