Review of Rango (2011) by Paolo S — 20 Dec 2012
Walking into the theater to see this computer-animated film, I literally had no idea what to expect. I didn't know much about the story, other than the fact that it's protagonist is an eccentric lizard who somehow winds up in the middle of the desert in the midst of a western style town run by various country critters.
Upon watching it, I was absolutely blown away by the CG animation in this film - it's genuinely unlike any other computer animated film that has ever been released. The graphics were gorgeous and so close to life, yet maintain a life of it's own.
While the CG kept itself apart from how we perceive everyday life and maintained a life of its own, it just straddles the line between live action and computer generated - truly just astounding. As for the story, it's cooky, funny, heartfelt, and at some points just plain weird.
"Rango" is a cinematic treat, giving its privileged viewer a memorable, hilarious, and endearing experience.
