Review of Rango (2011) by Philip R — 11 May 2013
I thought I would never get the chance to see it in theaters, but I finally did. I really enjoyed this film. It was funny, very visual, and very entertaining to watch. Johnny Depp led an amazing group of actors such as Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) as Beans the desert iguana, Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) as Priscilla the cactus mouse, Alfred Molina (TV's Law and Order: Los Angeles) as the Armadillo Roadkill, Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean II & III) as Rattlesnake Jake, Ned Beatty (Toy Story 3) as Mayor Tortoise John, Ray Winstone (The Departed) as Bad Bill, Harry Dean Stanton (Alien) as Balthazar, Stephen Root (TV's Newsradio) as Doc; Mr.
Merrimack; and Mister Snuggles, Gil Birmingham (The Twilight Saga) as the raven Wounded Bird, and Timothy Olyphant (Live Free or Die Hard) as an animated Clint Eastwood version of the Sprit of the West, who I thought were all terrific in their roles.
Although watching Nighy's character was just like watching him as Davy Jones from the PIRATES films. The music by Hans Zimmer was fantastic. And I also loved how it feautred a cameo appearance of an animated Hunter S.
Thompson, whom which Depp himself portrayed in the 1998 film FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. I make Director Gore Verbinski's RANGO one of best animated movies I've ever seen, one of the best westerns, and one the best movies I've seen in 2011.
