Review of Rango (2011) by Kevin R — 21 May 2013
I will blow that ugly right off your face!
Rango is a wandering chameleon in the desert who finds himself in a flakey town called Dirt. The town is plagued by a lack of water and a hawk. Rango accidentally takes out the hawk and is crowned sheriff. As sheriff, he is required to protect the town from those wishing to take the little bit of water they have. Rango will need to get his hands dirty if he wants to earn his keep.
"I'm from everywhere trouble is brewing and hell's waiting to get raised.".
Gore Verbinski, director of The Mexican, The Ring, The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and the upcoming Lone Ranger movie, delivers Rango. The storyline for this picture is pretty interesting and the characters are well presented. The animation style is fairly good and the voices are well selected and include Johnny Depp, Ned Beatty, Bill Nighy, Isla Fisher, and Alfred Molina.
"Water; without it, there's nothing but death and decay.".
Rango is a movie I have wanted to see for some time but just recently got around to watching it off Netflix (with my daughter). I found it interesting and fun to watch unfold. I won't say it is an animated classic or on par with the Pixar pictures, but it is on par with the recent Shrek films and maybe Kung Fu Panda. I recommend giving this film a shot.
"Enlightenment. We are nothing without it.".
Grade: B.
