Review of Random Harvest (1942) by Philip S — 14 Mar 2009
Another of Hollywood's great romances - never mind that the story may seem highly improbable, Ronald Colman and Greer Garson make it work (though it works a little differently on-screen than it does on the James Hilton novel on which it was based, because there was no practical way to set up the story as he did in the novel): Shell-shocked amnesiac Colman meets and marries actress Garson - all is well until he's knocked down on a Liverpool street and wakes up to wonder what he's doing there - the last thing he remembers is being in the trenches during The Great War, and those bombs falling .
. . turns out his rather prominent family has believed him "Missing - presumed killed"! And he doesn't remember Garson at all . . . what door would the key in his pocket open?
