Review of Random Harvest (1942) by Steve G — 21 Feb 2011
The ultimate climax in film. Climax of climaxes. You know it's coming. You are waiting for it to happen for two hours, and when it finally does, it does not disappoint. Total tear-jerker. The way he calls out "Paula!"... beautiful. Rarely has a single word evoked such emotion in film. I read that they had to recut and recut and recut until they finally got it right.
Beautiful performances. Not completely faithful to the book since in it we only find out the identity of the secretary at the end. You can't really replicate that in film since we watch her the whole time.
But an amazing story. Ronald Colman is solid as always. And Greer Garson is eminently watchable.
