Review of Ran (1985) by Magnus A — 02 Feb 2008
A wonderfully intelligent version of King Lear, inspired via Jan Kott's famous interpretation of the piece as a Beckettesque nihilistic vision, this film is a final triumph for the great Kurosawa. Sure it may well be just 1 minutes or so to long, but this film contains enough striking imagery and thought provoking action to justify the length.
With moments of pure poetry, this is one of thos eternally reawarding films that demands rewatching. A masterpiece.
