Review of Ran (1985) by Graham L — 21 Feb 2008
Kurosawa's "Lear" told as Japanese History is a marvelous, awe-inspiring spectacle, visually beyond criticism, but where it fails is in the development of a captivating drama. The characters are just too stoic and emotionless, which really means that they're dull, and it doesn't help that they're dwarfed by the movie around them.
Still, it's got to be seen.
