Review of Ran (1985) by Patrick C — 09 Mar 2009
Absolutely beautiful photography. Amazing use of lights and costumes. Kurosawa was an absolute genius. Jinpachi Nezu, Daisuke Ryu, Mieko Harada, and Hisashi Igawa are all brilliant as well. For me the only parts of the film the ones that were over acted.
Tatsuya Nakadai and Peter were a bit tough to take at times, overacting their way through many of their scenes. However there were times with Nakadai there are burned into my memory, such as when he stumbles mad from the third castle.
Well worth your time and a must for film students and afficianados. The ending of this film is positively heartbreaking.
