Review of Ran (1985) by Zach R — 26 Apr 2009
I have never seen a film use color the way this one did. It was all vibrant and beautiful. I was a little nervous about seeing how King Lear was adapted and whether or not Kurosawa kept all the Shakespearean elements.
What I saw when I watched the film blew me away. Not only are the elements intact, but Kurosawa displayed such an understanding of Shakespeare and perfectly directed the movie. By the time the opening credits were over, I was forevermore an Akira Kurosawa fan.
