Review of Ran (1985) by Caleb M — 04 Dec 2010
A beautiful, sad and heartbreakingly funny examination of how power, greed and bad discussions can ruin a kingdom. Kurosawa handles scenes of intimate familial drama and epic battles with a strong sense of emotional connection.
The raid on the third castle is one of the most haunting battles you will witness on film. Tatsuya Nakadai's expression throughout the scene is comic, but horrifying as well.
