Review of Ran (1985) by Jason R — 08 Apr 2011
Akira Kurosawa combines stories of feudal Japan with the story of King Lear. Not my favorite Kurosawa movie, but his last great epic. The movie is full of great imagery and awesome scenery and unlike many of his early samurai movies, full of color.
The movie drags however full of weighty dialogue, and the fighting scenes aren't up to the level of something like the Seven Samuria (but the story also doesn't lend itself to big fights like some of his other movies).
Still definately worth seeing.
