Review of Ran (1985) by Hedy F — 16 Aug 2011
Ran is a masterpiece, with beautiful imagery, every frame looks like a perfect single picture, painted by an artist at the top of his game. Kurosawa surely knew how to film battles, but even in the dramatic scenes he makes dazzling images, but visual apart, he tells a great story with great performances from his cast, that sometimes must look weird to ocidental audiences, even though they're wonderful, specially Tatsuya Nakadai as Hirdetora in a ghostly performance as a man who loses everything including his sanity.
Ran is not a film for movie scholars only, but to everyone who loves movies and likes to see a work from a great director, and Kurosawa was among the greatest.
