Review of Ran (1985) by Peter F — 08 Mar 2012
Arguably Kurosawa's most epic film (which of course is saying a lot). Not only does Ran have some of the most stunning battle sequences in Asian cinema, but it's themes of war, nihilism and family make it a great philosophical work as well.
The work of Shakespeare (it's a bit of an adaptation of King Lear) probably hasn't looked this good on the big screen since.
