Review of Ran (1985) by Matthew F — 01 Apr 2014
First Throne of Blood and now Ran, when Kurosawa adapts Shakespeare it results, in my opinion, in two of the best films I've had the pleasure of seeing. I honestly cannot think of anything wrong with Ran. Not one scene felt unnecessary or boring. I honestly feel at a loss for words. I can only say that any seasoned film goer must see this movie. If you don't like it then I feel confident in saying that the problem resides with you and not the film. I only wish that Kurosawa had adapted more Shakespeare plays, I don't really count The Bad Sleep Well.
We live for suffering and sorrow and everyone dies alone.
