Review of Ran (1985) by Adam T — 06 Apr 2008
It's a good film, I enjoyed it. I only felt that it was held back by the manifold distances it was filled with (camera distances through to the moral structure of the characters etc.) and I found the colours garish and distracting.
That said, I know that Kurosawa had a very specific vision of how the film was to be coloured so maybe others will feel differently (i watched the Criterion Collection version so I'm fairly sure of the fidelity of the colours to the original).
