Review of Ran (1985) by Wistremundo D — 16 Jun 2008
A stunningly beautiful and somewhat surreal and nihilistic version of King Lear's family woes, which translates well to a feudal Japanese setting.
"Ran" is Kurosawa at his absolute best with magnificent cinematography, sweeping panoramic vistas, compelling acting and battle scenes which provide some of the most memorable moments in cinema history. A truly epic, wonderful, magnificent film which runs Kagamusha very close as the best in his entire and illustrious career.
