Review of Rampage (2018) by Jess_Hill — 24 Apr 2018
Films based on video games are rarely (if ever) a success, and one which is modelled on a particularly absurd arcade game with a giant gorilla, crocodile, and flying wolf would seem an odd choice. However, absurdity aside, the third act of this film redeems the sluggish opening somewhat, and there are many laughs to be had.
The script is abysmal, though the clanging dialogue occasionally results in unintentional laughs, and The Rock is just charming enough to carry the ridiculous storyline to the epic conclusion. There is little substance here, and the cinematography often leaves much to be desired, but the final destructive sequences provide some thrilling moments, making for a silly yet occasionally entertaining film that is ultimately quite fun.
