Review of Rampage (2009) by Andrew D — 07 Jun 2010
Uwe Boll, bitter about being regarded as the worst director in the world, has created this psychopathic, hateful exploitation fantasy with Brendan Fletcher as his avatar. There's not much story here - it's what it says on the tin, and is clearly inspired by American school shootings such as Columbine and Virginia Tech.
You'll have to suspend disbelief to get through certain parts. There is a clever but predictable twist, and the denouement is ridiculous. Brendan Fletcher, playing the sociopathic loser, certainly has the look.
The controversial subject is handled dangerously and irresponsibly, glorifying the mass murderer. The acting, editing and rock soundtrack are poor, and the shaky cam is annoying. There are some slow motion shots that are well done, and the sound is decent.
It's dark and pulls no punches, but it has touches of black humor and isn't gory or totally merciless.
