Review of Rampage (2009) by Marcus B — 11 Jun 2010
Well, days of miracle are here - I actually liked a movie directed by Uwe Boll! The violence in the movie is the proverbial elephant in the room, so let's get this issue out of the way - yes, the movie is violent, but no more and no less violent than your average action flick. But let's be honest, what will send the politically correct crowd into the orbit is not the raw acts of violence, but rather its randomness. Personally I feel that this depiction of brutality is preferable to methodic and outdrawn torture in critically acclaimed flicks such as 'Saw', but what do I know.
If one manages to move past the most 'horrific' parts of the movie, 'Rampage' was rather clever and, dare I say, original? Some scenes, like the one in the bingo hall, are both hilarious and manage at the same time to be rather potent critique of today's society. Who would have thought that Boll is capable of pulling a 'Michael Moore'! Of course 'Rampage' is no 'Bowling for Columbine'. But I wouldn't hesitate to compare it to 'Falling Down'.
