Before 2008's "Rambo" this was my favorite of the sequels. A bit lighter in tone and far less full of itself then the previous entry. This time Rambo is in Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation to rescue his friend Col.

Trautman. The film knows it's premise is far fetched and just roles with it like an out of control James Bond movie. It's a lot more fun then the last one and even the brooding Rambo has lightened up a bit.

Director MacDonald adds energy to the action sequences and the film's villain Marc de Jonge is a bit more animated then 2's wooden Stephen Berkoff. A bit of trivia, at one time Rambo 3 was the most expensive movie ever made with a budget of $63 million.
