Review of Rambo III (1988) by Ben F — 14 Jun 2010
Umm.....okay. So at this time, Stallone was pumping out both Rambo movies and Rocky movies. I guess Stallone wanted to make a third Rambo, this time having more intensity and more action. What happened was a complete misfire. It was much worse than the sequel, and without a doubt the worst entry in the series. People might say it's the worst because of the random violence, but that's not true....it's horrible for completely different reasons.
So, "First Blood" was fantastic. To me, it's one of the best action movies of our time, mainly because it had a unique style, combining major intensity with slick stealth. The second one was just a Hollywood sequel, completely over the top dialogue, stupid action scenes, and what have you. But it's still a Rambo movie and it has to be appreciated a little bit. I didn't appreciate this film. I thought it was completely ridiculous.
So yet again, the enemies are the Russians, so this is just hilarious. All of the relatively good acting goes right out the window, and we are presented with one of the worst scripts of all time. Stallone really just didn't give a shit about lines here, all he cared about was the violence, and that's disappointing. Another thing I'd like to point out, is the Russian dialogue is atrocious. They have to be saying some of the most stupid crap I have ever heard. It's ridiculous! Things like dinner is soon, and I have gotten no letters. I mean like, what the hell?
Anyway, the action is in your face, and it's fun to look at, mainly because Stallone kills a ridiculous amount of people in this flick, but it doesn't take a way from the stupid foundation. I can't really enjoy myself if there's gratuitous violence, and a horrible story. Then I just find it boring.
Anyway, like I said, Stallone is terrible in this movie, and this film is just filled with really horrible jokes, extremely corny little boy lines, and Richard Crenna just wanting to leave the set because he knows that what he is saying is so stupid.
So to recap, this is definitely the worst film in the series. I guess they were trying to make this the most epic of all, but it didn't work out so well. The acting was horrible, and the entertaining action couldn't take me away from the horrible script, premise, and well...just everything else. But hey...the fight scenes were good....and that's all that matters right?....wrong.
